Articulatory-functional modeling of speech prosody: a review

Natural prosody is produced by an articulatory system to convey communicative meanings. It is therefore desirable for prosody modeling to represent both articulatory mechanisms and communicative functions. There are doubts, however, as to whether such representation is necessary or beneficial if the aim of modeling is to just generate perceptually acceptable output. In this paper we briefly rev...

Articulatory Synthesis of Speech and Singing: State of the Art and Suggestions for Future Research

Articulatory synthesis of speech and singing aims for modeling the production process of speech and singing as human-like or natural as possible. The state of the art is described for all modules of articulatory synthesis systems, i.e. vocal tract models, acoustic models, glottis models, noise source models, and control models generating articulator movements and phonatory control information. ...

Influence of sound immersion and communicative interaction on the Lombard effect.

PURPOSE To examine the influence of sound immersion techniques and speech production tasks on speech adaptation in noise. METHOD In Experiment 1, we compared the modification of speakers' perception and speech production in noise when noise is played into headphones (with and without additional self-monitoring feedback) or over loudspeakers. We also examined how this sound immersion effect de...

Applying Theories of Communicative Action in Generation Using Logic Programming

In this squib, I illustrate how NLG systems can pose and evaluate logical queries inspired by the work of (Moore, 1985; Morgenstern, 1987; Davis, 1994) to assess...
